Though it’s just hot air for the cameras. even the American government was angered by the conquering move announced by Israel yesterday. Reminiscent of when Hitler took the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia and incorporated it into Nazi Germany, thus rendering the rest of the country powerless against a quick Nazi defeat, Israel has just reported to the world that they have taken 400 hectares from the West Bank and are now claiming it as their own.
The 988 acres, known as the Etzion Jewish settlement bloc, neighboring Bethlehem is now “State land” controlled by the politicians of Israel, according to the Israeli Civil Administration.
This prompted U.S officials to speak out, one Washington spokesperson is quoted to say he is “urging the government of Israel to reverse this decision”—as if that will ever happen; and as if this were the first time Israel has pulled such an abrasive move. When one takes into consideration the actions and massive land grabs from the Palestinians at the hands of the Israelis for the past 100 years, it’s easy to see that this is typical behavior, and not only that, but it is the exact behavior the Americans, Canadians, British, and all of their crony countries have been funding since 1947—when Israel magically came into existence—and let’s be honest here; will America do anything else but talk? I highly doubt they will stop giving Israel billions of dollars, or billions of dollars worth of weaponry, every time they ask for it.
According to the Huffington Post, Israel Radio reported the Nazi-like land grab was in response to the kidnappings and killings of 3 Jewish teens back in June—which has also been the excuse for every horrific, inhuman, disgusting act of war, displacement, torture, terrorism, or genocide Israel has committed since—and an official Hamas or Palestinian representative is still yet to take responsibility for the killings.
The Group Peace Now relates there are only 10 Jewish families living in the appropriated area, but the Israeli government has jumped into the beginning stages of building 1000 houses for Jewish residents to move into ASAP, making this the largest Israeli land seizure since the mid-eighties, even though they have denied allegations of plans for the project for years.
Most countries seem to be reacting correctly, claiming this territory takeover as an act against international law, which it is in violation of. In fact, it’s considered an “act of aggression,” according to Princeton University’s website:
“Territorial integrity is the principle under international law that nation-states should not attempt to promote secessionist movements or to promote border changes in other nation-states. Conversely it states that imposition by force of a border change is an act of aggression.”
Knowing timing is everything, this announcement by Israel came just a couple days into an Egyptian negotiated ceasefire, drawing this apt remark out of reps of the organization Peace Now:
“By declaring another 4,000 dunams as state land, the Israeli government is stabbing [Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas] and the moderate Palestinian forces in the back, proving again that violence delivers Israeli concessions while non-violence results in settlement expansion.”
Also making a comment was Nabil Abu Rdainah, a spokesman for Western-backed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, saying the “decision will lead to more instability.” Instability yes, but that seemed guaranteed either way; expanding on the thought he added, “this will only inflame the situation after the war in Gaza”—bingo.
Apart from gaining more territory, which is clearly the overall plan, this move also seems to be an instigation for war from Israel, who has been treating Palestine like their personal slaughterhouse for past couple months, stacking up weaponry and infantry, and now under a ceasefire has nothing to do with it all.
For anyone confused about what’s happening in Palestine, refer to the picture above of the displacement and murder of nearly an entire people and then add it to this statistic:
“There are more than 164 Jewish settlements in the West Bank, eating up more than 40 percent of the occupied West Bank. The international community considers all settlements on the occupied land illegal.”
